Choosing Skirting Boards for a Period Home

Choose MDF skirting that suits your room’s proportions, existing joinery and preferred finish. Compare the profile shape first, then the available heights.

Compare the classic profiles

Find the right proportions

Look at your doors, ceiling height and original features. Hold a paper strip at each shortlisted height to see how it looks from the doorway and beside furniture. A taller profile can give a generous room more presence, while a lower profile can feel quieter.

Check the fit before ordering

Compare the cross section and dimensions with existing boards if you are replacing only part of a room. Similar names do not guarantee an exact match. Check the meeting points with door trim, pipework and flooring.

Work out your quantity

Measure each wall run at floor level, excluding door openings. Our shop profiles come in 2.4m lengths. Allow for cuts and corners, and plan where joints and usable offcuts will fall. A total-length estimate is a starting point, not a cutting plan.

Plan your finish

Our skirting is moisture-resistant MDF, supplied unprimed and ready to prime and paint. Styled room images show possible finished interiors; your order is not pre-painted.

Read our painting preparation guide, browse all skirting boards or ask for help choosing. Include your measurements and the profile you are considering.
